Good and Bad

by Cheryl Merrick

In our world where “good”
is a life of ease,
and “bad” is anything
you don’t want to happen,
God’s wisdom is renounced.

Arrogantly proclaiming
they know what is best,
they would deprive us
of all the strength and growth
struggling brings.

Viewing God as a mere
granter of  wishes,
they pout and cry,
like petulant children
when they do not immediately
get what they want.

Finally, when they are unable to
use the power of God
to fulfill their selfish desires,
they resentfully denounce
His existence.
