An Afternoon with Diana

by Cheryl Merrick

Seeing your eyes bright
and following movement,
You responding to sounds, and
Your relaxed stretching out
instead of clenching into a small ball,
I know you are getting stronger
and will be all right.
Inside I feel my grandmother’s heart healing
as I hold you lovingly in my arms,
cherishing these special moments
we have together.

Weaving

by Cheryl Merrick

Threads of love
His strains- strong, supportive, protective
Hers strains - concerned and nurturing
Each service of caring,
Each sacrifice of time or comfort,
Filling in the empty space, thread by strong thread
Giving meaning to their lives and
weaving their Tapestry of Love

Dark and Light

by Cheryl Merrick

Fearfully scuttering in the dark,
I saw only pain and imperfection
leading relentlessly down into
frustration and suffering.

Til, He interceded
Bringing peace, hope, and joy into my life,
Helping me to see His gifts of love

as He lights my path home

Frustration or FulFillment

by Cheryl Merrick

Longing for close family relationships
Seeking understanding and acceptance
Needing to improve the world
Hoping to do meaningful service
Feeling ideals and goals thwarted
Frustration slowly drained my energy
and destroyed my health

Accepting others responsibility
for their own lives
Enjoying and nurturing
all the positive relationships I do have
Accepting who I am
and sharing my talents
Influencing others for good
Enjoying being out in the world
Fulfillment energized my soul
and filled my life with contentment

Frustration or Fulfillment
the choice was always mine

A New Family is Born

by Cheryl Merrick

Mother soft with love
Father proudly protective
Baby cuddly and helpless
United in nurturing
A new family is born

Diana's Day

(A day in the life of a newborn)
by Cheryl Merrick

Pinpricks
and cuddles
Loud noises and
Mommies soft, comforting  voice
Limbs jerking and
Daddy holding her snugly
No more constant nourishment
Now she must work hard  for her food
Knowing the emptiness and pain of hunger
and the contentment of a full tummy
Being alone for the first time and
Being held close in loving arms
Diana begins her experiences
upon the earth
