Hurt by his
insensitive responses,
I step back.
Intent on some project,
he forgets I exist--
Another step.
A curt reply,
a brusk answer,
and step by step
I move away
to a safe,
but lonely
distance,
Leaving him
to flounder
in an unknown sea
of relationships.
