Of Microscopes and Telescopes

by Cheryl Merrick

With unerring
attentiveness,
you fix upon
the earth,
noticing details.

With stars reflecting
in my eyes,
I constantly peruse
the heavens,
discerning possibilities.

Focused into the distance,
my telescope
misses present limitations.

While so tightly aimed,
your microscope
fails to see wider options.

But together,
a detailed whole picture
comes into focus;

One with
firm direction
founded in reality.
