Dangerous People

by Cheryl Merrick

Like a person drowning,
those who don’t feel loved
desperately grab
at whoever is near.

Feeling powerless,
they seek to control others.
They manipulate, bribe, threaten, and hurt
to try and obtain
the attention they need.

Not believing others
could really love them,
they spend their lives defending
themselves from imagined “power plays”.

Panicking, they fail to see
that they are harming others
who only want to love and help them.
