by Cheryl Merrick
When birds sing again
and green shoots
push through bare ground;
When seemingly dead twigs
burst into blossom ,
and newness sparkles in the air;
We remember our Savior
who brought new life to man
giving us hope that after death
our bodies will live again,
and our spirits may be healed,
and, filled with new life,
blossom into greatness.

Tutelage
by Cheryl Merrick
Perceiving our needs,
Knowing our capacity,
Aware of our weaknesses
and fears,
In unfathomable love,
He designs
an individualized program
to help us progress
and return home.

Removing the Deadwood
by Cheryl Merrick
Like the blustering winds
that blow the deadwood
down from the tree,
My trials and challenges
shake my imperfections
loose from my soul

Invisible Chains
by Cheryl Merrick
Slowly, we allow invisible chains to envelop us.
Chains forged from carefully nurtured fears
grow, link by link, as we tell ourselves
“We can’t do it”, or “We can’t change”.
And so we place limitations on our potential,
like the powerful adult elephant
who continues to restrict itself
to the bounds dictated
by an inadequately small chain,
simply because that chain
was once able to hold him as a baby.

His Power
by Cheryl Merrick
When my life becomes
like a hopelessly confused
computer program,
I turn to the master programer
and beg His help,
then wait
as He patiently reprograms,
undoing my many errors.
I humbly thank Him
for His power
which frees me
from the consequences
of my mistakes,
and allows me to continue
to progress in my life.

Easter Thoughts
by Cheryl Merrick
In submission to His Father’s will,
He, who possesses the power to create worlds,
allows nails to be driven into his flesh
that He might save His friends.
Knowing no guilt or sin,
He suffers the consequences
for us all,
Dying that we might live.

Justice and Mercy
by Cheryl Merrick
In his determination for revenge
he gave no quarter
to mercy
Absolute Justice
was his demand
Til experiencing
its crushing weight,
He cried out,
Mercy!
