They left homes and property
Seeking religious freedom
Believing in revelation from God
Puritans, Pilgrims and Quakers
They came to America
Some came on the Mayflower
Later one, a young boy, became an orphan
when his parents died on the voyage
They settled in the Colonies of New York, and Pennsylvania,
then on to the Ohio frontier
Some fought in the Revolutionary War
One explored the continent with the Lewis and Clark Expedition
Another was the first native born governor of Ohio
They kept moving west to Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah
They came in wagons and handcarts
They came; farmers, doctors, lawyers, and blacksmiths
building sod homes on the prairie
establishing communities
raising families
Leaving me with a debt that can only be paid
by following their example
of faith and love
