When I was young,
people who were quiet
were considered "defective".
They were seen as
malformed extraverts,
"cold and withdrawn".
It was even whispered
that they were "mentally ill."
"Good", "mature" people were
friendly extraverts --
only they were truly loving.
Thankfully times have changed.
People who need quiet stillness
to access their talents
are no longer viewed
with fear and distrust.
Though I enjoy the time I spend
with close family and friends,
at last I can openly admit
that I thrive spending time alone
writing and studying.
Finally, I've come out
into the Stillness.
